Verve Sketch Challenge

This is a great sketch from Julee Tilman over on the SOA site. Julee is also the owner of Verve stamps. I don't have any of her stamps but have definitely been eyeing them for quite some time!! She has very fun sentiments w/ fun fonts... maybe a little shopping is in order?;)

Any-HOO, I used this clear owl stamp from Maya Road for this card. I LOVE owls and am really glad that there are so many owl products out there! The sentiment is from Amuse.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!! It looks like it will be cold and rainy here in MA... I have to say I don't mind though since I am working all weekend!! Next Saturday is the Heirloom Stamp Convention out in Springfield... woot woot!! Last year I got a deal on Nestabilities so I'm excited to see what they have this year! I am also on the look out for different color embossing powders. I am going to try to restrain myself on alterable items as I have so many that I have not even touched!!

Details-Paper-SU Whisper White, Pink Pirouette, Chocolate Chip, Baja Breeze and Kiwi Kiss, American Crafts DP; Ink-SU Chocolate Chip; Stamps-Maya Road owl and Amuse sentiment; Accessories-Mat pack and piercer, American Crafts ribbon, brads and corner rounder punch

Stampin' Out Alzheimers

Taylor VanBruggen issued a sketch challenge on the Stampin' Out Alzheimers site. This is my card using this sketch... I love how this card turned out! The polka dot paper is Amuse and the cardstock is SU Cameo Coral... I really love how this paper goes together, very fun!!
So, back to the SOA site... Jen Tapler who is a very talented stamper and blogger started this site to raise money for Alzheimers. The site is dedicated to her father who is diagnosed w/ the illness. The site is up all week and all you have to do is contribute $5 to participate in all the fun challenges, giveaways and discussions. All this while raising money for a great cause!!
There is alot of discussion on the site of living w/ someone dx'd w/ Alzheimers. Fortunately, right now in my life there is noone among my family or friends w/ this diagnosis. However, I work as a social worker on a geriatric psychiatric unit. All of our patients have some type of Dementia, some of the Alzheimers type. Lately we have had a number of fairly young patients w/ this diagnosis. The patients come to our unit for treatment of the agitation and aggression that, at times, comes along w/ the disease. It is heartbreaking to see a person waste away and even more heartbreaking to talk to families about comfort measures and end of life issues.
So, with all that said, go check out the site... or go directly to the Alzheimers Association to learn more or donate to help find a cure.

Thank You for BEE-ing a Friend

I saw this sketch challenge (SCS226) on Splitcoast and knew I wanted to use my Stampendous bees! I look for any excuse to use these guys though... I love 'em! And I love this American Crafts paper that I have been hoarding forever!!
No new stamping here though!!! I've been working 8 days straight and have been busy most nights after work. I haven't had a chance... this does not make me happy!! Work will not slow down any time soon so I have to figure out a balance!!
What does make me happy is the dinner that Marty just made... shrimp w/ Old Bay seasoning, rice pilaf and asparagus!! Also, I have Tuesday off and I am getting my hair cut on Monday... I am DESPERATE for a haircut!!! I'm not sure what I will do for the haircut but it is definitely time for a highlight to cover the grays that have recently popped up. Luckily, only a few but still....!!
Heading to the annual Heirloom Stamping Convention in a couple weeks... can't wait for that!!!

I have the morning off due to MCAS so I guess that's a cause to celebrate! but I have to go soon to see my afternoon kids. I won't be getting any stamping time in for a few days due to work:( I looked at the SCS sketch challenge today and it's a great one... so hope to be back in a few days with that!!

TECC 66

Did that title catch your attention? Probably not:) I have a hard time coming up w/ witty titles... the pressure of a title!!

Anywho, I made this card last night using another great sketch from Taylor VanBruggen. I was able to use a couple scraps that I had however it did pain me to part w/ these buttons!! I am such a button hoarder!

Marty and I were planning on a hike today however the weather predicted rain so we cancelled. Now I am looking out the window to beautiful hiking weather, no rain!! Oh well, I guess we could still go.... after I mosey on down to my LSS to check out their sales:)

Cupcake Friday

I am a week behind w/ this sketch... For this card I used Taylor's Friday Cupcake Sketch Challenge. When I saw this sketch I knew that it would go well w/ this stamp from Denami Design. I colored the ice cream as orange, lime and watermelon sherbert... my favorite ice cream flavors!!

SSC 225

I struggled w/ this card at EVERY turn... but I love the sketch so I really wanted to try it. Measuring and cutting is the WORST part of stamping for me. I'm not really an exact person and directions... well, I tend not to read them which usually gets me into trouble! Anywho, I struggled w/ the measurements of the pieces, then the ribbon wouldn't stay on and I smudged the ink!

BUT I am so happy that I got to use my new Spellbinders!! My mom and I went to Right At Home today... we had gone once before and it is a great store!! My funds were fairly limited today but I couldn't resist them!

Going to try to get in some more stamping tonight... I think Marty and I are going to take a day trip, maybe to Portsmouth... going to enjoy the beautiful weather!!

Love These Colors!!

This week the SCS color challenge was to use Basic Gray, Rose Red and Pink Pirouette. I had this pink pirouette layer already cut and embosseed from a previous card that didn't go as planned... so was never finished!! This is a great color combo... perfect for Valentines Day or any time really!!

My creative juices have been working overtime lately!! I got together w/Pam last night and made 2 more cards that I love!! I'll show this one using a set from Cornish Heritage Farms... it belongs to Pam but she stamped me a bunch of owls and while she was here I used some of the fun accessories as well!!

More Sketches

I made this card the other day also using SSC 224. I used my new set Polka Dot punches... it's a great set!

Unfortunately, all the relaxation I felt yesterday is gone. Today was the busiest day at work that I have ever experienced.... I got home 2 hours ago and I am still all wound up! Hate that!!

Saturday night I am going w/ 2 of my closest friends too dinner... we were thinking of the Melting Pot however I may rethink that given my recent tax woes!! Then Sunday night it's off to work again... to go towards the aforementioned tax woes!!

I have today off from work and I am loving it! I slept in, visited my parents and got to see my niece, Gracie. Now I am looking at blogs and Facebook and may do some stamping... ahhh, I wish every day was like this!!

I made this card yesterday using the weekly SCS sketch challenge. I liked this sketch and I may make some more cards today using the same sketch.

Another SFYTT

I made this card the other night using Jen's Saturday sketch. I'm glad I used the Stampendous bees... I love these guys but I don't use them enough!! I also love that I was able to use buttons on this card... one of my favorite embellishments!!
I also LOVE this latte I am drinking from Dunkin Donuts!! I recently gave up soda, not completely... I will have a Diet Coke in the afternoon from time to time, and made the switch to coffee. I never thought I would become a coffee lover but I quickly have.... but I do miss my Diet Coke:(

I'm getting together w/ my friend Pam tonight for our weekly craft night... I am going to break out my new Amuse stamps for some spring cards. Spring hasn't really sprung in New England but I keep hoping!!

It's Tuesday

So here is my card for Mercy's Tuesday sketch challenge! I needed a birthday card for a friend/co worker. I decided to go against my usual style and make a more elegant card. Elegant for me anyway!

I borrowed Mercy's idea of embossing the smaller panel. I also decided to use brads for the smaller oval piece.

I forgot to crop... you can see the mess on my desk!! I like how it turned out!!

Thanks for looking!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a snow day tomorrow!!

More Cupcake Challenges

Ana issued this sketch challenge... which I didn't really stick to!! I forgot to add the embellishments up top and didn't leave room for the sentiment!

Between my gift card and 20% off I got lots of fun stuff at The Paper Tree yesterday!! I have to run to work but I brought some stuff to play with in case it's quiet tonight!

Cupcake Challenge

Taylor is running a special sketch challenge this week to celebrate 1 year of Friday cupcake sketch challenges. I loved the challenge on Taylor's blog but I didn't have any ovals big enough to work!! So I found another sketch that I loved on Stephanie's blog. Stephanie designed this sketch to help Taylor celebrate...

Here is my version... I love this color combo... but I am also trying to use scraps so this is the paper I had to work with!

Pam and I are off to The Paper Tree... I have to use my Shop Hop Passport! For $5 I got a passport that allows 20% off at 12 different stores in New England. If you get to all the stores by the end of February you are entered in a drawing for a grand prize. I don't think I can make it to all of them but it's fun trying and a great deal!!

Just in Time

Last week my color challenge card didn't make the deadline for Kristina Werner's weekly color challenge. Well this week I made it.. barely!! This card is really simple but I really like it... I think the colors look very fresh together!!

I think I already mentioned how much I LOVE Kristina's blog!! It is a daily must read!

Anyway, I couldn't get a great pic due to lighting... I was practically contorting myself to get this one!!

Saturday Sketch on Sunday

This week I played along w/ Jen's Saturday challenge. I used the same color combo that I got from Kristina Werner's last color challenge.. I love the colors!!

I thought my camera was broken but turns out I had put in uncharged batteries! I was a little bit excited at the thought of buying a new camera... oh well it's much more sensible this way! I need my camera though because in 16 DAYS I am leaving for vacation!!! I can't wait... going to Winter Carnival in Quebec City!!

Off to stamp! Thanks for looking

Kristina Werner's Color Challenge

I love Kristina Werner's blog. Her style is so fun and I love her color challenges. This is my first entry to one of her challenges. I had this Scenic Route paper out on my desk and couldn't believe how perfectly it coordinated w/ the colors. I also just got this sugar coating glitter and wanted to try it out... though not sure if it makes this little guy a little creepy looking?:) Looking back I wanted to add ribbon but forgot before I adhered the layers... oh well, it's late so no going back now!

Featured Stamper

I haven't done an SCS challenge in a while and I knew I wanted to do this one. Laura from Scrapnextras was featured stamper a while back. I LOVE her blog and LOVE her style. I picked this card. I copied the layout but it's pretty self explanatory what was changed!

I am on April vacation this week so no teenagers for me... I am picking up hours at the hospital but I'm pretty happy for a break! The weather is amazing here and for a few reasons, life is pretty good:) Thanks for looking!!
