Bloodshot Owl!

I only have 1 hour to shower, get ready and GET to work BUT.... today is the last day for the SOA challenges, Julee Tilman had a great sketch that I hadn't tried yet AND my stamp area was all clean for once and begging to be used!!

So, I had to make this card!! I've been on a total owl kick lately!! I colored this guy from Cornish Heritage Farms in w/ Copics. I was rushing when I realized I had colored in the whites of his eyes!! So, I erased w/ my colorless blender pen which worked fairly well but now he looks a little bloodshot! I thought, in that case, I will add a sentiment about needing caffeine or something!!
A pretty quick and simple card but a great layout that I want to use again when I have more time!!! Speaking of Julee's sketches, I bit the bullet and put in a Verve order!!! So excited!!!
49 minutes... gotta run!!! Thanks for looking!!!

Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge

It's Friday and that means it's time for Taylor's Cupcake Friday Sketch. I loved Taylor's card and the Penny Black image she used... so cute!!!! This is a fantastic sketch and as soon as I saw it I had plans to use this Rubber Outlines Stamp! I love this stamp but b/c it is so big it is rare that I have the opportunity to use it. I substituted this flower button for the circle panel and tied the button onto the SU grosgrain w/ some twine. It is a pretty sparkly card in real life!!

Off to bed... work tomorrow then going out at night w/ Marty and my friend Leah and her husband. Sunday my mom is taking my nephews to the movies and I may tag along before work... any excuse to spend time w/ the little guys!!!

Verve Sketch Challenge

This is a great sketch from Julee Tilman over on the SOA site. Julee is also the owner of Verve stamps. I don't have any of her stamps but have definitely been eyeing them for quite some time!! She has very fun sentiments w/ fun fonts... maybe a little shopping is in order?;)

Any-HOO, I used this clear owl stamp from Maya Road for this card. I LOVE owls and am really glad that there are so many owl products out there! The sentiment is from Amuse.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!! It looks like it will be cold and rainy here in MA... I have to say I don't mind though since I am working all weekend!! Next Saturday is the Heirloom Stamp Convention out in Springfield... woot woot!! Last year I got a deal on Nestabilities so I'm excited to see what they have this year! I am also on the look out for different color embossing powders. I am going to try to restrain myself on alterable items as I have so many that I have not even touched!!

SCS Featured Stamper

Did I mention how excited I was that Mercy Kerin was this week's Featured Stamper on SCS??? Well, I was!! The rules of this challenge are to pick a card from the featured stamper's gallery and create your own but change 2 or more elements.

I chose this card of Mercy's. I changed the colors, the DP and instead of creating a flower, I used a Heidi Swapp ghost flower w/ button center. I kept the layout, piercing and used the same SU stamp.

I just finished a card for a challenge on the SOA site and I hoped to post it today. But my camera batteries are dead, of course!! I feel that my camera has some special power to suck the life out of batteries... they are always dead!! Anyway, they are are recharging now so that post will have to wait.

Alright, off to work... thanks for looking!!

Stampin' Out Alzheimers

Taylor VanBruggen issued a sketch challenge on the Stampin' Out Alzheimers site. This is my card using this sketch... I love how this card turned out! The polka dot paper is Amuse and the cardstock is SU Cameo Coral... I really love how this paper goes together, very fun!!
So, back to the SOA site... Jen Tapler who is a very talented stamper and blogger started this site to raise money for Alzheimers. The site is dedicated to her father who is diagnosed w/ the illness. The site is up all week and all you have to do is contribute $5 to participate in all the fun challenges, giveaways and discussions. All this while raising money for a great cause!!
There is alot of discussion on the site of living w/ someone dx'd w/ Alzheimers. Fortunately, right now in my life there is noone among my family or friends w/ this diagnosis. However, I work as a social worker on a geriatric psychiatric unit. All of our patients have some type of Dementia, some of the Alzheimers type. Lately we have had a number of fairly young patients w/ this diagnosis. The patients come to our unit for treatment of the agitation and aggression that, at times, comes along w/ the disease. It is heartbreaking to see a person waste away and even more heartbreaking to talk to families about comfort measures and end of life issues.
So, with all that said, go check out the site... or go directly to the Alzheimers Association to learn more or donate to help find a cure.

Double Challenge

I combined Kristina Werner's color challenge #53 w/ Karen Giron's Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #19... AND I REALLY wanted to use this DP. Well, the pressure gave me fits!! I LOVED the card that Karen made but I don't think I did this sketch justice:(

Though it is actually a simple card. I flipped the sketch, adhered some DP, ribbon and buttons a sliver of Baja Breeze card stock. Also, Kristina's challenge called for Pacific Blue... this is kind of close! I actually really don't like Pacific Point so really didn't want to use it!!

I am waiting for approval to join the Stamp Out Alzheimers challenges. Off to stamp some more!!

Happy Memorial Day!

I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday!! I am at work right now... but I get off at 3 and my plan is to stamp, stamp, stamp tonight!! Exciting life, huh!

There are a couple challenges out there that I am excited to tackle... Kristina Werner's color challenge is up and I have the perfect DP to go along w/ the great colors... the real challenge will be finding it amongst all my stuff!! Also, this week SCS Featured Stamper is Mercy Kerin... I discovered Mercy's blog a few weeks ago and it has quickly become one of my faves so I can't wait to CASE her work!! Also, I read about a challenge to benefit the Alzheimers Association... this is a cause close to my heart as I work in a gero-psych unit and see patients every day affected by this disease.

That's it for now... hoping to get to Wakefield Lake after work and then onto my stamping desk!!
